Perfume Thursday: Miller Harris - Rose en Noir

Bit of a sultry day in the office today.

Why, I hear you ask?

Well, obviously, because we’re all wearing Miller Harris's rather fabulous Rose en Noir!

Created by Lyn Harris, this is a classy, sensual treat - a very grown-up take on classic rose perfumes. It opens with a sweet, enticing floral rush but the Turkish rose and violet leaf are deep, dark and dusky from the start .  Petitgrain gives an initial citrus kick but the base notes of patchouli, vetiver, tabac noir and ambrettia (our smell of the week!) create a velvet base for the rich, sweet florals.  The spicy elements of cumin, coriander and black pepper give depth rather than adding spice, making this perfume intensely rich.

The fragrance held well and after a couple of hours was reminiscent of  "the air, heavy with scent, on a summer's evening immediately before a thunderstorm" (Elaine - you should write poetry!).

As the perfume developed, we detected a powdery element that reminded us of mooching around a vintage clothes shop on a Sunday afternoon, the mix of rose, violet and cumin (often linked to the smell of human bodies - sweat, to be precise!) being evocative of pre-loved, pre-worn dresses still infused with the perfumes of days gone by.

Delicious, bold and just a tiny bit suggestive.

Would we wear it?

Absolutely!

An all-round thumbs up for Rose en Noir!
