Perfume Thursday: Juliette Has a Gun - Calamity J.

Calamity J. by Juliette Has a Gun is what we're wearing today and we love it!

For one, it's different. Composed without any 'traditional' top notes, rather than being hit with a fresh or fruity opener, earthy and soft Patchouli is what introduces the perfume, giving it a warm and inviting tone from the get-go.

Other notes include, Iris, Iso E Super, Vanilla, Tonka, Amber, Civet and Labdanum among many others. From those notes you can begin to gather a sense of the perfume's personality.

The more typically masculine notes are said to have been chosen to represent women and their strong role in society and although within the first few minutes of wearing Calamity J. that masculine punch is there, the Vanilla dry-down gives it a much more sophisticated and feminine ending.

The different sides to this perfume are interesting in that you could argue it represents the various sides of a woman. In the beginning it conjures up ideas of strong, independent and important women but by the end the sweet, vanilla/amber notes add a pretty, motherly and feminine finish.

It's not a mind-blowing, amazing perfume but it is different, and we like different. Plus we could tell the Iso E Super was working after Sally complimented Elaine on her more-revealing-than-usual-yet-all-the-while-beautiful dress...    ;-)

All in all a lovely perfume to be able to wear. Some of us have liked the smell, but wouldn't choose to wear it and some of us would class it as a signature scent; which just goes to show how diverse our noses are! The heavy, powdery notes give it a mature warmth that would possibly suit the winter months more, but nonetheless it's been a pleasure to wear.

Has anyone else tried this or any other perfumes from the Juliette Has a Gun collection?
