Nuit de Cellophane by Serge Lutens

Today I am wearing Nuit de Cellophane by Serge Lutens.

I’ve always been intrigued by the name of this perfume and somehow conjured up ideas of some sort of rather shocking game…but now I get it…it’s the cellophane around a bouquet of flowers.  Unravel the cellophane and the floral aroma is released

So yes this is a floral and upon first sniff it seems very safe for a Serge scent.  The other Serges that I have are bold, heavy and very long lasting.

This one may yet outlast the day, but it isn’t bold, it is rather regular (dull!) and like several other gentle florals.

The opening aroma is a rather beautiful osmanthus blended with mandarin.  If you’re not familiar with osmanthus you should try it.  It is a floral apricot and works well with other fruits and with other flowers (or with both!).

Serge has chosen lily, carnation and jasmine to add height and depth to his osmanthus floral bouquet.  Not content with just flowers though, Serge has worked his magic and included a fair amount of foliage and the green stem and leaf aroma wraps the florals in a fresher layer.  Musk, honey, almond and wood are the tail end of this perfume and round the perfume off with a soft honied creamy cashmere blanket.

It’s very pretty and very delicate.   I always expect a bit of a shocker when it comes to Serge Lutens and this has disappointed.  Not because it isn’t a beautiful perfume (it is) but somehow Serge Lutens usually provides my need for leather, smoky, civet, ambergris, deep, sexy and dirty type perfumes and this one doesn’t deliver those at all.

Devil versus virgin.
