In the spotlight this week is Juicy Couture's self-titled fragrance, Juicy Couture.
Described as a fruity-floral perfume, Juicy Couture opens with Watermelon (our aroma of the week), Mandarin, Pink Passion Fruit, Green Leaves, Hyacinth and Marigold Flowers. On first hit it is more fresh and uplifting than sweet and fruity. We were expecting to be overwhelmed by chunks of watermelon and other fruits, but instead we were left pleasantly surprised by it's beautifully balanced composition.
At the heart of the perfume lies a heavy helping of tuberose, lily and wild rose and once these notes are introduced there's no turning back from or denying its floral personality. The tuberose gives it a slight musky, powdery scent which is increased by the powdery vanilla found in the base. Other base notes include caramel, which adds a bowlful of sweetness that is quickly overturned by patchouli and other woody notes.
Juicy Couture has taken many of us by surprise. At first Bryony really wasn't keen about the boldness of it, noting that it felt distracting and too in your face, but after a days wear (it does seem to last exceptionally long!) she grew to like it bit by bit, ultimately confirming that it smelt like her favourite gift shop by the seaside; bringing to the forefront some happy memories. Elaine and Ruby agreed that it's almost not-at-all fruity, but floral through and through, which is perfectly acceptable, if heavy florals are your thing.
Throughout it's wear time, which we've found to be up to 6 hours, Juicy Couture presents itself as perfectly balanced. This makes it a very sophisticated and smart perfume that is suitable for a variety of ages. It's more complex than a teen perfume but may be too sweet for those who like darker, sexier scents.
Juicy Couture is very pretty, feminine and once the initial boldness calms down, is very easy and enjoyable to wear.
