Perfume Thursday: Tommy Girl by Tommy Hilfiger

One of the greatest things about Perfume Thursday is that we get the chance to wear a variety of perfumes from throughout time (see our Royal Nosegay perfume review, for example).

While there are many perfumes released each year, it's always good to reflect and look back at some of history's most loved fragrances, and this week, with Garden Mint as our chosen aroma, we're wearing Tommy Girl by Tommy Hilfiger.

The initial burst of citrus that explodes from the bottle is met with subtle florals and other gentle fruit notes, balancing its bright opening wonderfully. These opening notes (Blackcurrant, Mandarin, Apple Tree Blossom and Camelia) give the perfume a lively, zingy and bold opening which each of us have found irresistible and a true delight to wear.

A new dose of florals are introduced in a sophisticated wave with the likes of Honeysuckle, Lily, Violet and Rose which form the heart of the perfume. They are also met with Lemon, which maintains that moreish citrus burst, and Garden Mint which adds a new subtly detectable layer yet important layer.

As it matures, it's very easy to think of this perfume as suitable for both women and men. The base notes that wriggle in (Sandalwood, Leather, Cedar, Jasmine and Magnolia) give it a sturdy, well-structured base which give a rounded, completeness to Tommy Girl.

After researching online, a common opinion is that it's a very young perfume, but we would have to disagree. To us it's sophisticated, superbly structured and confident, and although we think it's suitable for girls, we also think that women of all ages would find pleasure in wearing it as well as men.

The only criticism we have is that we wish it lasted longer. On the majority of us we felt it was apparent for around two hours which is a respectable staying time; we just love it so much we want it last longer!

This classic perfume was released in 1996 and has continued to strive year on year as a timeless perfume. It's one that many of us in the Plush Folly office wish to repurchase ourselves for our own endless supply - until the bottle runs out, that is!
