Today's perfume, Honey by Marc Jacobs was released in 2013 after the success of Daisy, Lola and Dot. It's safe to say that Honey fits into the collection perfectly, both with in terms of style and bottle design (more on that later).
Honey opens with a juicy blast of mandarin teamed with pear to create an excitable, fresh start. Our first impressions were pretty unanimous' all of us feeling the perfume was lively, sweet and youthful. Despite some of us feeling the sweetness a was bit too much, making it slightly too girly and young, the rest of us felt that simply made it fun and frivolous.
Orange blossom, peach, apricot and honeysuckle create the heart of Honey. The combination of fruit and floral begins to calm down the initial liveliness but only by a fraction. There's still a lot of bounce to this perfume, even while it matures on the skin. After a short while of wear it was clear the perfume had calmed making it lighter and easier to wear while still maintaining that pretty/girly feel.
The base of the perfume includes our Aroma of the Week and the perfume's namesake, honey, as well as wood notes and vanilla. These quite sweet base notes manage to maintain a glorious, golden sweetness while warming and softening the energetic, syrupy nature of the perfume.
The smell is undeniably pleasant, there's nothing offensive about it, but it simply isn't to everyone's taste in the Plush Folly office. Elaine felt that at different stages, the perfume aged bit by bit, starting at youth before growing up slightly, to finishing on 'old lady-like'. Nickie felt it was too youthful and sickly for her while Bryony enjoyed wearing it at all times, thinking it was beautiful and a pleasure to wear. Lastly, Sally felt it was boring when compared to it's predecessors.
One thing is for sure the bottle is fantastic. Just like all of the perfumes in the Marc Jacobs collection, Honey stands out with its clear rounded bottle and yellow lid, decorated with large white polka dots and beautiful bees. It embellishes even the dreariest of shelves or displays with it golden, nectar-like liquid and colourful exterior.
It lasted for different lengths of time on each of us, the longest being 3-4 hours and shortest being 1.5 hours. The silage of Honey is great, though, easily pushing itself out there to treat the wearer to a wave of this sunny scent at every opportunity.
