Perfume Thursday: Ormonde Jayne - Tolu

Tolu Balsam essential oil has recently joined us at Plush Folly and we love it so much that we wanted to fast track it to the front of the queue for Perfume Thursday inspiration. Upon researching we found Tolu Balsam included in many perfumes, but we decided to go for one that not only includes this gorgeous component, but is named after it too: Tolu by Ormonde Jayne.

Tolu is a smooth, velvety blend of oriental and floral scents. Sharp waves of Orange, Clary Sage and Juniperberries reach out first but soon weaken to reveal the true heart of the perfume. Tolu Balsam, Rose, Lily of the Valley and Orchid are combined beautifully with Amber to give it strength but before it's all over, Tolu Resin, Incense and Tonka Bean make sure that this perfume sticks around.

It's warming, rich, deeply sensual and slightly powdery thanks to the Amber addition. It has a quality, vintage sense about it and we feel it's quite a mature perfume because of that. The smokey-sweetness of the base gives it a moreish quality too, one that we simply can't stop smelling.

If oriental perfumes aren't usually the type you go for, don't be intimidated by Tolu because the florals speak loudly to create a true hybrid, Floriental perfume.

The Tolu Balsam isn't as prevalent as we were hoping for, especially considering the perfume's name, but nonetheless it's a stunner of a perfume.
