June Intensive Cosmetic College

After a miserable weekend of rain, rain and more rain, a watery sun and Monday morning arrived along with students from Norway, Spain, Scotland, Wales and various parts of England.

After introductions and settling in, the course dived straight into studying the characteristic of a wide range of carrier oils. Plunging the students into the depths of oleic, myristic and other fatty acids, the properties, benefits and behaviour on the oils on skin was explored and the students created their own range of skin, hair or body oils. Argan oil received a lot of attention although the jojoba oil bottles seemed to be emptiest at the end of the exercise!

After lunch the room was filled with beautiful aromas as we uncapped over 40 essential oils and discussed their merits in terms of active properties in skin care and mood enhancing capabilities in perfumed products. Most oils were commended for their beautiful aromas, others less so (poor vetiver, we felt quite sorry for the little chap as no one was brave enough to include him. I'm certain that he'll be more popular as the week goes on!).

From wonderfully captivating perfumes to 'must have' room diffusers enhanced by the introduction of some sumptuous fragrance oils...and wow, do we have a class of budding 'noses'. The blends created simply danced their way from bottle to beaker to final container, sparkling with teasing essences to delight and mollify. Impressive results from first attempts - I await day two with excited anticipation.
