Feerie by Van Cleef & Arpels

Today I am wearing Feerie by Van Cleef & Arpels.

Firstly let me tell you that what made me buy this perfume is the bottle’s lid.  Oh my goodness, it is something I needed to have on my desk to admire, it’s sooooo beautiful. It is a metallic fairy sitting on a flower petal.

So what is the juice inside like?

Soft violets, oh dear I’m not a huge fan of violets, but this one is very soft, a little like the smell of theatre makeup so I am coping with it quite happily.  To partner the violet we have floral notes of rose, jasmine and iris that form an ethereal layer once the mandarin and blackcurrant opening notes have floated away in the breeze.

The perfume has green notes running through it, entwining themselves around each individual aroma and coating them in a mantle of soft leafy greenness.

The base notes are soft creamy sandalwood and vetiver and round the perfume off perfectly.
The whole perfume is a fairy trail.  I can imagine her dipping in and out of flowers, zipping from leaf to leaf,  branch to branch, tree to tree, hovering over twigs and collecting dew, nectar , broken bark and other botanical secrets to transform into magical fairy dust.

The perfume is gentle and powdery and innocent.   It feels fragile, I should be whispering and walking on tip toes and wearing something pastel and floaty.  It is a little too clean and virtuous for me.

I wonder how the fairy will cope if I layer the perfume with a spritz of black musk.  Sadly I think it will frighten her, tempted though I am.
