Today I am wearing Oud Palao by Diptyque.
Goodness it’s strong.
No fresh uplifting citrus spicy burst, no gentle wafting in of florals
or juicy berries, this perfume wades straight in with deep, resinous, smoky
oud, labdanum and tobacco.
There are other notes in here as well but they are
overshadowed. Rose has a walk on part
but is soon bustled into the wings by the key notes. Vanilla, rum, patchouli, camphor and
sandalwood are voiceless faces in the crowd but we wouldn’t have a crown if
they didn’t feature. Oh, rose has walked
on again and is delivering quite a punch.
The casting couch definitely favoured a glorious combination
of oud, labdanum, rose and tobacco and pretty much that’s what I’m wearing. I am doused in smoky incense and Arabian
nights, soaked in souk scents and doused in dark ash from burnt woods. This will stay on stage for a standing
ovation.
It is quite hypnotic.
I’m never sure of oud as it often offers me a pig farm stench, but this
is good. No pigs in this rather intense
and delectable perfume.
